I used to be a serious rock climber in my 20s.
As a college student studying recreation and leisure studies at California State University, Northridge, I discovered the joy of climbing at Stoney Point in the San Fernando Valley.
Whether it was daily trips to Stoney Point, “playing” with a challenging rock face traverse, or climbing in Joshua Tree National Park, I made sure I had my health insurance in place.
Even in my youth, I knew I had to be smart about pursuing what can be a dangerous hobby.
There’s no bigger danger than a lack of confidence and a tendency to hesitate.
The less present you are, the more likely you are to injure yourself.
That’s true for many things in life—not just rock climbing.
Knowing I had a safety net (no pun intended), I was able to fully engage in my climbs without that nagging inner dialogue:
“well… what if you get hurt? are you really going to do that?”
On and on…the litany would never end.
I never got seriously hurt—either in rock climbing or glacier mountain climbing.
But that experience shaped how I think about this work.
In fact, I’m making a declaration:
I’m changing the word “insurance” to “support.”
Every day, I support people with this precarious business of living.
That support looks like:
When you have the right support in place, you move differently.
You make decisions with more clarity.
You take action with more confidence.
You’re more present in the moments that matter.
Help me support more people in moving through life with greater confidence.
I’ve got your back—and I’ll have theirs.
You’ll be a hero to the people you care about.
And they’ll thank you for helping them get the support they need.
